This page is part of our turnkey fire fighting projects range. The right extinguisher depends on what will burn, not on what is cheapest. A CO2 unit does little on a burning cardboard store, and a water unit is dangerous near a live panel. When we supply fire extinguishers in Visakhapatnam, we walk the site first and match each unit to the room. Units already on your walls can go for fire extinguisher refilling in Vizag with us.
Which extinguisher for which fire
Fires are grouped into classes by what is burning. Most buildings need two or three types, placed by risk rather than spread evenly.
ABC powder covers classes A, B and C, which is why it is the common choice for corridors and general areas. Powder makes a heavy mess in a server room, so we put CO2 next to electrical panels instead.
| Fire class | What burns | Extinguisher to use | Typical room |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Paper, wood, cloth, plastics | Water, foam or ABC powder | Offices, guest rooms, stores |
| B | Petrol, diesel, oils, solvents | Foam, CO2 or ABC powder | Generator rooms, workshops, fuel stores |
| C | Gases such as LPG | ABC powder, after shutting the gas | Kitchens with gas banks, gas stores |
| D | Metals such as magnesium | Special dry powder for metals | Some factories and labs |
| Electrical | Live panels and equipment | CO2 or clean agent | Server rooms, panel rooms, lift rooms |
| Kitchen | Cooking oil and fat | Wet chemical | Hotel and restaurant kitchens |
How many extinguishers and where
Numbers come from floor area, hazard and how far a person must walk to reach one. Codes set a maximum travel distance, and IS 2190 gives the method. A godown can need more units than an office of the same size because of what is stored.
Mount them where people already walk, near exits and stair landings, not hidden behind doors. The handle should sit at a height most adults can reach, with a sign above so it can be seen over furniture. Keep the floor below clear, because a unit behind stacked boxes is no help.
Colours, labels and tags
Most extinguishers in India have a red body, with the type shown on the label and often by a coloured band. Read the label rather than trusting the colour. It shows the fire classes the unit covers, the capacity, the operating steps and the maker's details.
Each unit should carry a service tag with the last refill date and the next due date. The pressure gauge on stored-pressure units should point to green. A missing tag or a needle in the red means the unit needs service now.
Who should not use which extinguisher
Water and foam units must never be used on live electrical equipment. CO2 in a small closed room can push out the air, so the user should discharge it from the doorway and step back. Water on burning cooking oil makes it flare and spread, which is why hotel kitchens need wet chemical units.
Staff need to know this before a fire, not during it. Short hands-on fire safety training at your site shows each person which unit to pick and how to use it.
Supplying fire extinguishers in Visakhapatnam
We supply units marked to IS 15683, fix the brackets, put up the signs and give you a list of every unit with its location and refill date. On larger sites the list goes into a fire safety AMC, so refills and checks happen on schedule. Hoses, blankets and signs are covered on our fire safety equipment page.
Fire extinguishers for Vizag hotels, kitchens and port businesses
Hotels and resorts along Beach Road and at Rushikonda need wet chemical units in kitchens, CO2 in panel rooms and ABC powder in corridors. Restaurants in Dwaraka Nagar and Siripuram usually need a kitchen unit and one or two powder units. Schools in Seethammadhara and MVP Colony need units that teachers can lift and use.
Near the harbour, ship chandlers and port-side offices store paint, rope and oils, which call for foam or powder units. Humid sea air also shortens the life of cylinder paint and brackets. We look for rust under the base and at the neck, and replace a corroded cylinder rather than refill it.
Fire extinguishers in Visakhapatnam are checked by the Andhra Pradesh Fire Services Department during NOC inspections, and our fire NOC consultant in Visakhapatnam service covers that file. The Visakhapatnam office page lists all our services here. We also supply extinguishers in Hyderabad.

Standards and approvals
Portable extinguishers are made to IS 15683, and IS 2190 covers how to select, install and maintain them. Both guide how we plan your units. The fire department checks extinguishers during inspection, and only it can issue the NOC.
