Hoses, branch pipes and hose reels
Fire hoses come in set lengths and diameters with instantaneous couplings that lock onto landing valves. Branch pipes give the jet its shape. Both must match the valves already on your hydrant system, so tell us the coupling size before you order.
Hose reels use a smaller rubber hose on a drum fed from the hydrant line. They suit staff use because one person can run one out. Check that the reel swings freely and the nozzle shuts off fully.
Buckets, blankets and signs
Fire buckets filled with dry sand are still useful on building sites, fuel stores and godowns. Fire blankets belong in every hotel and restaurant kitchen, mounted near the exit rather than over the stove. A blanket fixed over the cooker cannot be reached once the pan is on fire.
Photoluminescent signs glow after the lights go out, charged by normal lighting. They are a cheap way to keep exit routes visible during a power cut or in smoke. Whether they are required for your building depends on its use and the fire code, and we can advise from your drawings.

Buying a pump by its horsepower alone is a common mistake. Flow and head have to match the building, or the pump will not deliver water at the top floor.

Standards and approvals
Extinguishers are made to IS 15683, and IS 2190 covers their selection and upkeep. Hoses, couplings and branch pipes should carry the relevant Indian Standard marking. Only the fire department issues the NOC, and supplying equipment does not guarantee approval.
