Hooter Cum Strobe

A hooter cum strobe sounds a loud alarm and flashes a bright light at the same moment, so the warning reaches people who cannot hear it over noise, or cannot hear it at all. Essatech selects, supplies, installs and maintains hooter cum strobe units in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Send us your drawings and we will recommend where they are needed.

Two warnings in one unit

A hooter cum strobe gives two signals from one housing: a loud sound and a flashing light. It is driven by your fire alarm system and switches on when a detector or call point trips the alarm. One unit means one cable run and one mounting point, which keeps the installation tidy and the cost lower than fitting a separate hooter and strobe at each spot.

Where a visual signal is needed

Sound alone fails in several common situations. A hooter cum strobe is the better choice in these:

  • Machine shops, generator rooms and plant rooms with loud equipment
  • Areas where people wear ear protection or headsets
  • Offices and floors with occupants who have hearing difficulty
  • Long corridors, stairwells and basement car parks
  • Hospitals, hotels and hostels with many rooms
  • Shopping malls and large showrooms with background music

What you get from Essatech

Our team assesses your facility and recommends a suitable solution, as part of a complete alarm job:

  • A site visit to see the noise levels, layout and occupants
  • A plan that shows where combined units go and where a plain hooter is enough
  • Supply and installation, wired to your panel
  • A check of every unit during commissioning, both sound and flash
  • Maintenance that tests each unit on your service visits

Why buyers choose Essatech

Essatech has been in business for more than 15 years, and its licensed team brings 80 years of combined experience in fire safety and security. The people who survey your site install and service the system, and that keeps the total cost of owning it low, because you are not paying several contractors to coordinate with each other.

Testing at handover

At handover we sound and flash every unit and check that the panel registers each circuit. We then walk each area to confirm the alarm is audible and the flash is visible from the far end, because a unit that looks right at the mounting point can be weak at the back of a hall.

Check the panel can carry the load

A strobe draws more current than a plain hooter, so a panel that runs ten hooters may not run ten combined units. Before we quote, we check the panel make, its sounder output and the battery size. If the load is too high, we add a power supply or a booster instead of overloading the panel.

Units must also suit the panel type. Conventional and addressable panels use different devices, and flameproof or outdoor sites need special versions such as flameproof hooters. The fire alarm panel page explains how the sounder circuits work.

For builders, architects, MEP consultants, corporates, industries, hospitals and defence

Industries with loud machinery are the first users, since a flash gets through where sound does not. Builders and architects should allow for strobe loads in the panel and power design, because the extra current is easy to plan and costly to fix later. Commercial building owners use combined units in malls and open offices, and hospital owners use them in corridors and areas used by people with hearing difficulty. MEP consultants can add strobe loads to the panel and power calculations with our figures. Corporates use combined units on noisy trading and server floors. Defence sites, including Navy and Army workshops, hangars and dockyard areas, need a visual alarm where machinery is loud, and we quote within their vendor rules.

What decides the cost

A quote depends on four things:

  • The number of units, which follows floor area and noisy zones
  • Type: conventional, addressable, flameproof or weatherproof
  • Any extra power supply needed to carry the strobe load
  • Cable length and mounting height

What to send us for a quote

Share these by WhatsApp or the quote page:

  • Floor plans or a sketch with room names
  • The rooms where noise is high or hearing may be limited
  • Make and model of your existing panel, if any
  • Whether any areas are outdoors or hazardous
  • Your location and the date you need the work done

Common questions

What is a hooter cum strobe?

It is an alarm device that combines a loud sound with a flashing light to warn occupants during a fire alarm.

Why not use a hooter alone?

Loud equipment, ear protection and hearing difficulty can hide a sound alarm. The flashing light still gets through, so more people react.

Will my panel power combined hooter and strobe units?

Maybe. Strobes draw more current, so we check the panel's sounder output and battery before quoting and add a power supply if needed.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number and type of units, the power supply and the cabling. We quote in writing after a site visit.

Can Essatech help me choose the right unit?

Yes. Our team assesses your facility and recommends where combined units are needed and where a plain hooter is enough.

Do you provide installation and maintenance?

Yes. We install and maintain them in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
