What a fire safety audit covers
The audit reviews fire risks, existing safety measures, staff awareness and readiness to respond to a fire. It also checks the availability of a suitable fire alarm and detection system and firefighting facilities such as fire hydrants, fire sprinklers and fire extinguishers. The result is a clear list of what is working, what is not, and what to do first.
Why building owners book an audit
Most owners book an audit for one of four reasons: an inspection or a renewal is coming, an insurer or client has asked for evidence, a new tenant or owner wants to know the building's condition, or something has gone wrong and they want it fixed. In every case the audit gives you a written, dated record of the condition of your fire safety and a plan to improve it.
What documents are needed
The audit reviews documents and records as evidence of fire safety arrangements at the premises. These should show what has been assessed, maintained and practised, and who is responsible. Please keep these ready:
- A suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment carried out by a competent person
- Emergency plans for a fire at the premises
- Fire safety and dangerous substance information provided to staff
- Details of fire prevention and protection measures
- Staff training and fire drill records showing who took part, when and what training was given
- Testing and maintenance records for fire safety systems, emergency lighting and firefighting equipment
- Action plans for significant findings from the fire risk assessment
- A fire safety maintenance checklist showing what is checked, by whom and when
The objectives of the audit
The audit identifies significant fire hazards and reviews how well existing measures control the risks. It also evaluates the fire safety training and instructions given to employees and occupants:
- Identify all significant fire hazards and the risk from each hazard
- Evaluate existing control measures and passive fire protection systems
- Assess occupants' and security personnel's awareness of fire safety and rescue operations
- Evaluate fire safety training and instructions given to employees and occupants
- Determine what further control measures are needed
- Test all fire safety equipment and systems
- Check for a suitable emergency plan that defines the responsibilities and actions of key personnel
- Review the availability of suitable fire alarm and detection systems, fire hydrants, fire sprinklers and fire extinguishers
What you get from Essatech
An audit with us gives you more than a checklist:
- A site visit by our licensed team, with a walk through every floor and plant area
- Testing of your alarm, hydrants, pumps and extinguishers, not only a check that they exist
- A written report that lists each finding, its risk and the action needed
- Help to fix the gaps, since we supply and install the equipment ourselves
- A follow-up visit to confirm the fixes, if you want one
For builders, architects, MEP consultants, corporates, industries, hospitals and defence
Commercial building owners and industries book audits before renewals, inspections or insurance reviews. Hospital owners book them to check evacuation plans, exits and equipment on every ward. Builders and architects use an audit on a completed building to find gaps before handover, so the owner receives a building that is ready for inspection, with the record to show it. Corporates book audits across offices and campuses for internal compliance and insurance. MEP consultants can ask for an audit to support a handover. Defence establishments, including Navy and Army sites, can ask for an audit of their buildings, subject to their security and vendor-registration rules.
What decides the cost
The price of a fire safety audit depends on:
- The size of the building and the number of floors
- The equipment to be tested, such as pumps, sprinklers and hydrants
- The condition of your records
- Whether you want a follow-up visit
What to send us for a quote
Share these through the quote page or on WhatsApp:
- Building type, floor area and number of floors
- A list of fire safety systems installed
- Dates of the last audit and the last service, if any
- Your location and the date you need the audit done
After the audit
An audit is only useful if the findings are fixed. We can supply and install missing equipment, service what is failing and set up a maintenance schedule, such as our fire safety AMC in Hyderabad or the Visakhapatnam AMC, so the next audit finds fewer gaps. For approval papers, see our Fire NOC guidance. The fire department issues the NOC, not Essatech.
Audits in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam
We audit offices, hospitals, hotels, schools and factories across both cities. Contact our offices to plan a visit.
