Conventional Fire Alarm System

A conventional fire alarm system detects fire by zone rather than identifying an individual device, and it is designed for small facilities such as offices, retail shops and small stores. It gives you an approved, working alarm at the lowest cost. Essatech supplies, installs and services conventional systems in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Send us your floor plan and we will quote.

How a conventional fire alarm system works

Conventional fire alarm systems have been used for many years. The range runs from 2 zones to 100 zones. The system indicates the zone where a fire is detected, and the detail it can provide is limited by the number of circuits used. Essatech supplies, installs and services conventional fire alarm systems in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam as part of its fire alarm system services.

What a full system includes

A conventional system is more than a panel. It is a set of devices wired together by zone:

Advantages of a conventional system

The system offers a simple setup with low-cost panels and devices:

  • Low-cost control panel and devices
  • Simple setup
  • No configuration required
  • Wide compatibility across manufacturers
  • Less labour needed for installation

Where it is used

Conventional fire alarm systems are designed for small facilities. Typical applications include:

  • Small buildings
  • Individual offices
  • Retail shops
  • Small stores

Planning for growth

A conventional panel is available in a range of capacities and feature sets to suit different applications. These panels offer life-safety control features for architects, engineers, facility managers and owners, and are designed to help meet life-safety needs and regulatory requirements. The panels offer backward and forward compatibility to help retain the value of the original system investment. Upgrades can use existing infrastructure, reduce disruption to building operations and help control costs over the system's life. A control panel can form the base of an expandable fire and life-safety communications system, using existing infrastructure to add emergency notification systems.

When to choose addressable instead

A conventional system shows the zone in alarm, not the exact detector. In a small building that is enough. If you have several floors, large floors or a lot of rooms, finding the fire from a zone indication wastes time, and an addressable system is the better choice. We tell you honestly where the line is for your premises.

What you get from Essatech

We supply, install and service conventional systems as a complete job:

  • A free site survey and a zone plan from your floor plan
  • Supply and installation of the panel, detectors, call points and hooters
  • Commissioning, with every zone and device tested
  • A labelled zone drawing for the panel
  • Maintenance and yearly testing, if you want them

Testing and upkeep

A conventional system needs little attention, but it still needs some. At each service visit we test a detector in every zone, check the panel battery and charger, read the fault log and confirm that the hooters sound. Dust is cleaned from detectors, and any zone that shows repeated faults is traced and repaired, so small problems do not grow into false alarms. Each test goes in a logbook with the date.

For builders, architects, MEP consultants, corporates, industries, hospitals and defence

Builders and architects of small blocks, schools, shops and clinics can use a conventional system with zones by floor, and we explain where the limit lies. Commercial building owners use it in small tenant units, industries in small stores and offices, and hospital owners in small clinics. For larger buildings we recommend addressable and show the cost difference. MEP consultants can specify conventional systems for small blocks and we price the zone plan. Corporates use them in small branch offices. Defence establishments, including Navy and Army sites, use them in guardrooms and small stores, and we quote within their security and vendor-registration rules.

What decides the cost

A conventional system costs less than an addressable one. The total still depends on:

  • The number of zones and detectors
  • The panel size and the brand
  • Cable length and how easy the building is to wire
  • The number of hooters and call points

Common questions

Does a conventional system show the exact detector?

It indicates the zone where a fire is detected, not the individual device. The detail depends on the number of circuits used.

How many zones can a conventional system have?

The range runs from 2 zones to 100 zones. Panels come in different capacities to suit the application.

Can I expand it later?

Often yes. Upgrades can use existing infrastructure to reduce disruption and help control costs, and a panel can form the base of a larger emergency communications system.

Is a conventional system enough for my building?

For small buildings, usually yes. We check the size, floors and use on a site visit and tell you if you need addressable.

How much does a conventional system cost?

It depends on the zones, detectors and cabling. We quote in writing after a free site survey.

Do you install and service them?

Yes, in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
